On Remembering and Creating Memories, Figuring Life Out Again as a Single Bloke, and Being a Weekend Dad
Since around 1996, I've accumulated a rather varied collection of hobbies and interests. Some have grown into small businesses, some have stayed hobbies, and others have quietly fallen by the wayside. Most of them come from the same source: I'm a creative type, and my brain is nearly always in high gear. I'm forever thinking... Continue Reading →
After seeing another story somewhere about a person asking ChatGPT what it would do if it were declared President of the United States, I decided to turn the question around and ask it something a little closer to home: “If you were to become Prime Minister of Australia, what changes would you make?” I was... I’ve been cleaning windows on Kangaroo Island since 2018. Flyscreens. Window tracks. The lot. I do it so everyone has a clear view. Oh, and I’m also a volunteer radio presenter at 5KIxFM 90.7. And now, I’m a KIBBA member. For quite a while I thought the Kangaroo Island Business and Brand Alliance (KIBBA) was... Continue Reading →
This article was originally published 11 October 2006 as 'Save Space on Your Computer'. Tonight I have updated and republished for clarity. (The original article is now deleted to avoid confusion) Back in the mid-2000s, keeping a Windows computer running well meant regularly defragging the hard drive. It was just one of those maintenance jobs... Continue Reading →
If you previously read a similar post on my blog, this is the updated version replacing the original article that was first published in 2006 and has since been removed. When I first started exploring digital photography, I quickly discovered there was much more to creating a good image than simply pressing the shutter button.... Continue Reading →
I've been using WordPress for nearly 20 years. During that time I've redesigned my own blog more times than I care to admit, tinkered with themes, broken the odd thing, fixed it again, and generally learned by doing. Even after all these years, I'd still be the first to admit I haven't explored every corner... Continue Reading →
I’ve got a funny story to tell. Mostly it about recycling. Funny but practical. Recently I bought this leather round ottoman. Problem was, it didn’t come with any stuffing. The instruction pamphlet said you could fill it with beans, foam blocks, or 'material squares'. So I looked that up. Turns out, they mean cutting fabric... Continue Reading →
Over the last few months I have compiled an interesting and life-changing list of the many things in my life I SHOULD be, COULD be and WILL be thankful for: Things I should be thankful for: These are the solid, already-in-my-hands realities. The stuff that’s quietly doing the heavy lifting. I am alive, functional, and... Continue Reading →
Over the past week (1-6 Feb 2026) , I barely left the house. Partly because I could afford to - a decent window cleaning job bought me some breathing room - yet mostly because I didn’t have the energy to be anywhere else. I lay on the lounge, eyes open, staring into space while the... Continue Reading →
In 2016… Almost 10 years ago I said I’d been blogging online for 10 years — but it was actually longer than that. Way back in 1999, I was just jotting down thoughts and publishing them as separate pages on my Telstra personal page. Those pages don’t exist anymore. From memory, I then moved to... This week brings an improved version of an illustration, created especially to fund and support my new program All Aussie Artists. My radio show - broadcast every Tuesday night from 6pm to 8pm on Kangaroo Island’s 5KIxFM90.7 Community Radio Station - is all about giving homegrown musicians a proper spotlight, and building a playlist that... OK, our editors might have that slightly wrong. Maybe they meant to say the unusually shiny, suspiciously well-behaved interstellar object currently spreading its seed around our galaxy. Yet we will let it slide. AbstractRecent observations of the interstellar object 3I/ATLAS have produced findings so inconsistent with established astrophysical theory that the research team briefly considered...
