G’day, I’m Stephen Mitchell.

I’m a photographer, writer, web designer, community radio presenter and entrepreneur based on Kangaroo Island, South Australia. I’ve always enjoyed the intersection of creativity, technology and business, and this website is where those interests come together.

After decades of trying different projects, businesses and hobbies, I’ve realised that I don’t fit neatly into one category. I’m curious by nature, happiest when I’m learning something new, and always looking for practical ways to turn ideas into reality.

Photography

Photography has become one of my favourite ways to slow down and notice the world.

Most weekends you’ll find me walking around Kingscote with a camera in my bag, looking for interesting light, unexpected moments and the quiet beauty that so often goes unnoticed. Every photograph tells a story, and I’m always searching for the next one.

Community

I’m an active volunteer with 5KIxFM90.7 Community Radio, where I present an all-Australian music programme featuring everything from classic favourites to emerging independent artists.

Creating Things

I’ve been designing websites since the early days of the web and still enjoy building clean, fast, accessible sites using HTML5 and CSS3. While technology constantly changes, good design never goes out of fashion.

Outside the digital world, I’m drawn to hands-on creative projects. Rock carving, rope art using materials collected from Kangaroo Island beaches, photography, gardening and the occasional new hobby all satisfy that urge to make something with my own hands.

Life Today

I’m a father first, and spending time with my two sons will always be one of the most important parts of my life.

After a major life reset, I’ve discovered something unexpected: independence suits me. These days I’m focused on building a meaningful, peaceful and creative life on my own terms. That includes continuing to learn, travelling more around Australia, designing a home that reflects the way I want to live, and remaining open to whatever opportunities life places in front of me.

Life rarely follows the script we write for it. Mine certainly hasn’t. But that’s part of the adventure.
