30 Nil-Author Life Quotes to Help Your Day Feel Better

I like a good motivational quote. Yet so many have been used by businesses, translated into Latin, or plastered across T-shirts as though they’re something original and witty.

Sure, I like stoic, masculine, life-inspiring words from Roman and Egyptian times, when men sculpted stone and raised pillars to the gods of their choice. I also like well-written song lyrics from music written since the 1960s. Yet many of the quotes I prefer have unknown authors, or at least haven’t been attributed to any one person.

Here are a few that don’t tend to appear in the usual lists of motivational and inspirational quotes, yet each helps me get through the average day:

  1. “Trust the timing of your life.”
  2. “Everything you go through, grows you.”
  3. “Let your past make you better, not bitter.”
  4. “Life begins at the end of your comfort zone.”
  5. “I didn’t come this far to only come this far.”
  6. “Have the courage to live life the way you want to.”
  7. “What defines us is how well we rise after falling.”
  8. “Life is a gift. Wake up every day and realize that.”
  9. “I trust the next chapter, because I know the author.”
  10. “It is up to you to see the beauty of everyday things.”
  11. “Supporting another’s success won’t ever dampen yours.”
  12. “You get in life what you have the courage to ask for.”
  13. “In the end, we only regret the chances we didn’t take.”
  14. “Be happy with what you have while working for what you want.”
  15. “There’s no time to be bored in a world as beautiful as this.”
  16. “Stop trying to calm the storm. Calm yourself, the storm will pass.”
  17. “How to be happy: Decide every morning that you are in a good mood.”
  18. “Edit your life frequently and ruthlessly. It’s your masterpiece after all.”
  19. “Life has a funny way of working out just when you start to believe it never will.”
  20. “It’s a short life. There’s no reason not to go after what sets your soul on fire.”
  21. “Life is too short to give another minute to anyone or anything that doesn’t make you happy.”
  22. “The older I get the more I understand that it’s okay to live a life others don’t understand.”
  23. “What a wonderful thought it is that some of the best days of our lives haven’t happened yet?”
  24. “It’s okay to be scared. Being scared means you’re about to do something really, really brave.“
  25. “Attract what you expect. Reflect what you desire. Become what you respect. Mirror what you admire.”
  26. “Be strong enough to stand alone, smart enough to know when you need help, and brave enough to ask for it.”
  27. “No matter what happens in life, be good to people. Being good to people is a wonderful legacy to leave behind.”
  28. “Always leave people better than you found them. Hug the hurt. Kiss the broken. Befriend the lost. Love the lonely.”
  29. “The waiting. The meantime. The in-between. It all serves a purpose. Trust your process, even the delays and detours.”
  30. “Stop doubting and stop overthinking. Life is happening right now and you shouldn’t waste it wishing it was different.”

And that’s it. I have my own mantra, created at different times in my life when my mind needed an extra hand to stay focused, held up and on track.

I hope one or more of these might also help you when you need a little encouragement, a different perspective, or simply a reminder that things can get better.

You’re welcome.
