This was an unfortunate choice. Despite the logo being effective, strong and definite – It appears that anyone who has any botanic skills will know the flower is a lotus and not a waratah.
The cost of the logo also asks two questions:
- CUSTOMER: How much is ANY logo truly worth?
- CREATOR: How much can we charge for graphic design work?
This genuinely is an interesting situation. Personally, I believe your company logo is worth a LOT more than $5, a price that many stock-sites would have you believe is all you are worth. As to whether $5,000 is excessive is a difficult situation. The problem lies not only in the excessive prices that some graphic designers want to charge, but also in the gullibility of customers.
This is not to say that all customers are naive, only that they should ask more questions and ask the opinions of all their employees if a new logo is warranted and appropriate. Those that have to wear it, present it, represent it plus be ambassadors for your company should be asked their opinion … because if they don’t like wearing it, you’ll soon discover from the treatment they give their clothes and work whether they resent or appreciate its appearance.
If you are going to put a logo on the janitor, scientist or company-clerk, why wouldn’t you consider their opinion?
