Education Equals Money, Cash and Two Billion Dollars

You think computing is an industry where a good education helps … right?

Here are two examples that show how much education you need to become a billionaire:

1. Sergey Brin received his BS degree in mathematics and computer science from the University of Maryland at College Park in 1993.

Currently, he is a Ph.D. candidate in computer science at Stanford University where he received his M.S. in 1995.

He is a recipient of a National Science Foundation Graduate Fellowship. His research interests include search engines, information extraction from unstructured sources, and data mining of large text collections and scientific data.

2. Lawrence Page was born in East Lansing, Michigan, and received a B.S.E. in Computer Engineering at the University of Michigan Ann Arbor in 1995.

He is currently a Ph.D. candidate in Computer Science at Stanford University. Some of his research interests include the link structure of the web, human computer interaction, search engines, scalability of information access interfaces, and personal data mining.

Recognize the names? Yes, they are current owners of the biggest search engine in the world who recently spent 1.65 billion dollars to purchase a 12-month-old business.

The education level of the creators and founders of YouTube:

1. Chad Hurley graduated from Twin Valley High School, Elverson, PA in 1995 and received his B.A. in Fine Art from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

2. Steve Chen graduated from John Hersey High School and attended the Illinois Math and Science Academy and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

3. Jawed Karim graduated from Central High School (Saint Paul, Minnesota), and went on to attend the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He left to graduate in computer science at Stanford University.

So it turns out that to create something a high school completion is sufficient, but to afford to buy it from the creator you will need a university education to find a job that will pay you enough money to afford to buy it from the creator. Go figure
