If you have seen my Facebook page, you’ll see an image I created for my header that reads:
GRIT – THE RAW ENDURANCE, PERSEVERANCE, PERSISTENCE AND PASSION THAT KEEPS YOU GOING, DESPITE OBSTACLES.
I read this somewhere and decided it needed to be an extra mantra in my life. Because sometimes life is tough to handle, painful to endure and difficult to stay strong whilst handling or avoiding the obstacles. So I created it to remind myself daily that I can and I will overcome all that stands before me with GRIT.
What is GRIT?
I decided, after a lot of choices, that each letter stands for GUTS, RESILIENCE, INTEGRITY AND TENACITY. Below I have expanded on each to show how important each factor is in my life:

Guts
Guts, to me, means having the courage to step out of my comfort zone, to embrace uncertainty. It’s about facing my fears head-on and not letting them dictate my choices. When I look at the journey I am still on, it’s the moments when I had the guts to take risks that stand out the most. Sure, it’s scary, but every time I summoned the guts to do it, I came out stronger on the other side. It’s my guts that keep me moving forward. It’s that fire inside me that says, “I won’t give up.”

Resilience
Resilience helps me to bounce back from setbacks, to keep going even when the odds seem stacked against me. Yet it remains one of the most valuable tools in my kit. There are moments when it feels like the universe is testing me, pushing me to my limits. But resilience is what keeps me standing tall, no matter how hard I’m hit. There were times when I poured my heart and soul into a project, only for it to seemingly crumble. It hurts, yet I didn’t let it break me anymore. Resilience is not about being invincible; it’s about being adaptable. I’ve learned from my failures and now use them to build a stronger foundation.

Integrity
I’ve often found that the most satisfying moments in life are where I’ve stayed true to my values and integrity. Whether it’s starting a new project, building meaningful relationships, or pursuing a passion, staying true to my values can be challenging at first, but it’s also the most fulfilling. Integrity is not about being stubborn or inflexible; it’s about being principled and doing what’s right when the opportunity arises. It’s about being the architect of my own moral compass, rather than just going along with the flow of life.

Tenacity
Tenacity is my refusal to give up. It’s a quality that’s carried me through some tough times. There are moments when I’ll feel like I’m running on empty, but that’s when tenacity kicks in. I’ve faced moments when success felt like a distant speck on the horizon. But I kept going, fueled by my tenacity. And you know what? I eventually reached those goals. It’s the voice inside me that says, “I will not quit.”
These qualities aren’t reserved for a select few; they’re accessible to all of us.
They’re not about being superhuman; they’re about being human and tapping into our inner power. It’s about recognizing that the path to happiness is often a bumpy road with challenges and setbacks, but with the right mindset and these four trusty companions, I can navigate it with style and determination.
