Have you seen this very new Canon camera? It looks impressive! The Canon EOS 7D. With a 18megapixel CMOS sensor, up to 12800 ISO and a 19-focal-point sensor, this camera looks mighty impressive.
The only flaw? Well, just for the body alone you’ll pay around AU$2,500. With the kit lens (EF 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS), you’ll be forking out around AU$3,700.
This new camera has impressive specifications, that almost rival the Canon 1D or 5D. Yet maybe that is the point of the 7D to be a mid-point between these two great cameras. I’ll let you be the judge. If you want to read more, check out DPReview \ Canon EOS 7D. I welcome your thoughts on this new camera.
UPDATE (5 September 2023):
We purchased it for my wife, yet I have also used it and have loved it. I actually prefer it over my Canon 50D, but not quite as much as my Canon EO M.
Yet the 7D is still of great value in 2023. The Canon 7D was one of the best sports and wildlife cameras in the world when it was released in 2009. Fast-forward to 2023, and the 7D feels distinctly more rugged than most cameras of its age and genre, plus distinctly heavier as well. The camera is legendary for being the most weather-sealed non-flagship camera of its day, and it still screams durability.
This was my first camera that uses Compact Flash cards, and I have to admit the 7D writes files very fast because of it. The AF system was great for its day, and it still can compete with much more expensive bodies in the hands of a professional.
The image quality is phenomenal because it has an 18mp sensor. Even with all of my experience shooting with different bodies, it is still a much more sophisticated and better-handling body.
I still highly recommend the 7D as a rugged, tough, reliable work-camera.
