I have found a question that needs a longer answer than just a few words:
I’ve lived enough years now to see the truth behind the old saying: Some things really do get better with age.
Here’s what I’ve found actually gets better as I get older:
- Self Respect
I don’t need anyone’s permission to be who I am. I’ve earned that quiet confidence through mistakes, heartbreak, and rebuilding. I’m not here to impress; I’m here to live honestly. - Selective hearing
These days, I only listen to voices that matter. I’ve learnt not every opinion deserves my attention, and not every problem is mine to solve. - Emotional honesty
I used to dodge tough conversations. Now, I speak up. I say what hurts. I name what’s real. I’d rather have an awkward truth than a polished lie. - Friendships
The good ones have stuck, even when life scattered us across the map. A few mates have moved back to American River, and though I miss them, the connection’s still there. Solid.
And just to keep it real:
- My fridge shelf
Once packed with sugar-filled food, it’s now a shrine to vegetables and meat. Now that it’s only me, cooking at home has become a quiet joy – far cheaper, and weirdly therapeutic. - Tools and frypans
Call me old-fashioned, but nothing beats a well-worn tool or a seasoned pan. They just know what to do, no fuss, no fluff.
