In what can only be described as an uncanny display of modern technological chaos, local resident Stephen ‘Stephentrepreneur’ Mitchell reported a harrowing evening when both their keyboard and mouse simultaneously expired from a lack of battery power.
“It’s like a conspiracy,” they said, holding their phone like it’s a lifeline to humanity’s grasp on civilization.
The situation, though seemingly trivial, quickly escalated into a full-on digital crisis.
“I tried the usual tricks – changing the batteries, staring at the devices with deep disappointment – but nothing worked,” said Stephen, whose trust in technology was shaken to its core.
“I honestly thought I was stuck in some kind of tech dystopia, right here in my own living room. I had to <gasp> use my computer-touch-screen keyboard. That’s when I knew I had to reboot the system.”
Enter: SKYNET-PRIME, the machine in question. The self-named computer – a hybrid of cutting-edge artificial intelligence and good old-fashioned sarcasm – had its moment to shine (and maybe plot world domination, no one’s really sure at this point).
“The system is back online,” the relieved computer-owner announced.
“Skynet-Prime is operational. Again. It never goes down. It’s like the Terminator of PCs. I half expected it to say, ‘I’ll be back’ in a robot voice.”
Despite the initial panic, Mr Mitchell managed to reconfigure the tech, swapping out dead batteries and restoring order to their digital life.
“Crisis averted. For now,” he concluded. “But I’ve got a feeling this isn’t the last time my devices will try to pull some ‘End of Days’ stunt on me. That, or it’s Skynet-Prime. It’s hard to tell at this point.”
In the end, it’s clear: When humanity’s final battle with machines inevitably comes, we’ll all be in serious trouble… but only if the batteries die.
Postscript:
This is bound to leave a few of you scratching your heads – and possibly questioning the stability of your own devices – while hopefully giving the rest of you a chuckle at the impending digital apocalypse that did not happen in my office tonight.
