More Projects Than Time Available

Sigh, this needs to be written, if only for myself. Because – there’s no denying it – I’ve got too many projects on the go, and not a single one is getting finished.

A good friend reckons it’s my way of coping, that I’m hooked on the rush of creating rather than completing. And you know what? I’m starting to see just how right they are. Writing it down makes it real: I’m chasing happiness, growth, a sense of accomplishment – and, if I’m being completely honest, intimacy. There, I’ve said it.

But today isn’t about overthinking; it’s about facing the list of projects and passions I desperately want to complete in this lifetime. So here goes – my best attempt at ranking them by what truly matters.

This is a solid list – packed with passion, nostalgia, and creative drive. Here’s a refined version with that same emotional punch and flow:

1. Getting a new battery for my Super73 ZG

This problem has dragged on for nearly three years, but only recently did I realise my bike takes the same battery as the Super73 Z1. That discovery changed everything. I’ve spent the last 12 months scraping together the funds, and now, I’m this close to making it happen. Freedom is just a battery away.

2. Publishing my poetry – finally

I’ve been sitting on this dream for 40 years. Started as a teenager, found my rhythm in my twenties, then spent two decades compiling seven books’ worth of poetry. And yet… not a single one is published. Some would argue this should be my top priority, but let’s be real – other projects will help bankroll this one. So for now, it waits, simmering, but not forgotten.

3. Beach-rope art

Thanks to @nikkiredmanphotography’s dedication to clearing Kangaroo Island’s beaches of washed-up junk, I’ve now got a bucket full of rope and string soaking in rainwater, waiting to be transformed. Once it’s dry, it becomes art. If all goes to plan, this should be complete around June. And yes, I’ll document the entire process – expect updates. 🔗 Watch this reel

4. Rock art – bringing it back after a decade

For reasons unknown, I’ve spent a lifetime collecting interesting rocks and stones from beaches and rock pools. For over 10 years, the idea of sculpting with them sat on the backburner. Then, a few weeks ago, I finally bought the tools. Now, the only thing standing between me and carving is a 50m power cable – because, of course, the shed I’m working in has just one power-point on the other side. But no matter. This project is finally happening.

5. Biff and Buck – My Son’s Dinosaur-Channel Idea

Back in early 2021, my youngest son asked me to start a channel for his dinosaur-themed ideas. Since I’ve always had a thing for dino-humour, I jumped on it. I grabbed two of his rubber dinosaurs, named them, and started making dynamic and static graphics.
And then… Life happened. The project sat idle for a few years. But Aidan (now ten years old) is still keen for Dad to bring it back to life. Armed with a green screen and AI-generated scripts, I feel that spark again. Time to bring Biff and Buck back.

6. YouTube-ing / Vlogging

I’ve been passionate about making short videos for almost as long as Casey Neistat. After binge-watching all his early content, I realised we had nearly identical camera histories. I’ve collected the same small cameras he used… yet, I didn’t follow the same path. Instead, I hit pause before the spending got out of hand – stopping at the Canon EOS M and a GoPro 3+.

Yet, the creative itch never faded. The ideas are still there – just waiting to be filmed, edited, and shared. Whether it’s in my small office or out in my backyard playground of Kangaroo Island, the urge to hit RECORD is stronger than ever. And let’s be real – once my Super73 ZG is back in action, vlogging will definitely be part of the ride.

7. Complete Building my Tamiya TT02B RC Car

Five years ago, right after the Kangaroo Island Fires, I splashed out on a Tamiya TT02B kit, packed with all the goodies – motor, servo, ESC, battery, charger, and a radio system. Everything I needed to build a serious RC car, ready to rip up the dirt. And yet… it’s still sitting there in the cupboard. All that’s left to do is connect the hand-held accelerator to the car!

At first, life got in the way, then came the old “I’ll get to it soon” excuse, which turned into months – no, years – of it gathering dust. But every time I spot that car, gathering dust, I feel that pull. The thrill of tuning it, the satisfaction of watching it come together, and finally ripping it around the backyard like I’m 12 again. Yeah, it’s time to bring this beast to life, get it running, and actually enjoy what I spent my hard-earned on.

8. Writing – Books, Poetry, and This Blog!

I’ve been blogging since 1998. My first blog was just a simple, static page about me. Fast forward, and now I’m still writing about myself, just in a slightly different way.

In addition to my blog, I’ve got preludes for mostly-fiction books bouncing around in my head, just waiting for their turn to be written in full. Plus, there are scripts for Biff & Buck that need to be finished.

With a little help from AI, it has gotten easier to get the ideas out of my head, yet I still do the bulk of the writing. Mostly on my smartphone (and email everything to myself!), so a tablet with a keyboard would definitely make life easier, but hey, one thing at a time… everything takes time.

So? I am Looking Back to Move Forward!

I know there’s more – like the books I’ve started and have rattling around in my head, as well as giving my office a fresh look to keep things neat and easier to find, while not making it all too much of a showpiece. I’ve also got plans to tidy up my end of the shed in the same way.

But for now, that’s enough. I’ll share more as my mind settles after spilling all this out!
