POEM: Sunset on Kangaroo island

The internet has been intermittent over the last few days, which has meant no social media nor other online activities. So I returned to my off-line hobbies: Writing, drawing, reading and thinking about life. Amongst all that, I saw a few sunsets.

One bright evening inspired two lines of verse, but the poem remained unfinished until today, when my youngest son’s playful recitation of “Roses are red” awakened the remaining verses within me.

This evening I chose one of my many photographs taken here on Kangaroo Island over the last 26 years to display the words upon. Here it is for your reading pleasure:

Amazing how my mind sometimes works: From sunset to nursery rhyme, an hour’s quiet contemplation transformed poetic inspiration into simple verse. Sometimes my best creativity emerges when I least expect it, and today, the words simply found their way.
