I have realised over the last few years that emotional integrity is about what you do – or choose not to do – every day. It’s about protecting the heart of the person you love, even when they’re not around to see it.
True faithfulness means more than just avoiding infidelity. It’s the texts you don’t send, the flirty conversations you choose not to engage in, and the decisions you make when no one else is watching.
As relationship expert Esther Perel beautifully puts it, “Love is a verb, an action, a commitment. It’s not something that happens to you but something you do.”
In today’s digital world, emotional infidelity can be just as damaging as physical infidelity. It’s about not having anything on your phone, in your DMs, or in your heart that you wouldn’t want your partner to see.
Dr. John Gottman, a leading relationship expert, emphasizes the importance of trust and transparency, stating, “Trust is built in very small moments.”
Being truly faithful isn’t just about physical monogamy; it’s about emotional integrity.
It’s about not seeking validation or attention from anyone outside your relationship. It’s about choosing your partner every day, in every small decision, even when it’s hard.
To borrow from the words of the poet Rumi, “You are not a drop in the ocean. You are the entire ocean in a drop.”
Emotional integrity means recognizing the vastness of your love and protecting it, cherishing it, and nurturing it with every fiber of your being. That is what it means to be truly faithful.
