Creating My NEW Daily Mantra

Life has a way of throwing curve-balls at us, and I’ve certainly had my share of moments feeling overwhelmed and out of sorts.

Through trial and error, I’ve found a simple mantra that helps me navigate these common emotions and find my inner calm. It’s all about shifting focus and finding the right activity to match my mood. I want to share these discoveries with you, in hopes that they might help you too.

When I catch myself overthinking, I’ve learned to grab a pen and start writing. Whether it’s jotting down my thoughts in a journal, making a to-do list, or even penning a letter I’ll never send, getting my thoughts on paper clears my mind and provides a fresh perspective.

When I feel anxious, I take a few minutes to meditate. Finding a quiet spot, closing my eyes, and focusing on my breathing helps calm my nerves and brings me back to the present moment. Just a few minutes of mindfulness can make a world of difference.

If I’m tired, I’ve stopped pushing through it. Instead, I give myself permission to take a nap. A short rest recharges my batteries and improves my focus and mood for the rest of the day. Some weekends I sleep for up to 24 hours!!

When I feel sad, exercise has become my go-to pick-me-up. Whether it’s a brisk walk, a yoga session, or a quick workout, getting my body moving releases endorphins that lift my spirits.

For those moments when I’m feeling stressed, a simple walk works wonders. And if you have a dog, even better! The combination of fresh air, physical activity, and the companionship of a furry friend helps me decompress and feel more grounded.

When I’m angry, I turn to music or gardening. Playing my favorite tunes and letting the music wash over me, or getting my hands dirty in the garden, is incredibly therapeutic and helps me channel my energy into something positive.

When I’m feeling burnt out, I take a break and read a book. Losing myself in a good story provides a much-needed escape and helps recharge my mental batteries.

Currently I am reading The Resilience Project: Finding Happiness Through Gratitude, Empathy and Mindfulness – by Hugh van Cuylenburg.

And when I’m hungry, I’ve learned that it might be a sign I need more than just food. Sometimes, hunger can mask other needs like sleep or hydration. I make sure I’m getting enough rest and drinking plenty of water throughout the day.

These simple activities have made a big difference in how I feel, helping me navigate the ups and downs of everyday life with a bit more ease and grace. I hope that by sharing my discoveries, you’ll find some strategies that work for you too. Next time you’re feeling off, try one of these and see how it transforms your day.

TLDR: This is my take on a version that has been circulating online for the past few years:

IMAGE READS:
overthinking -> write | anxious -> meditate | tired -> nap | sad -> exercise | stressed -> walk alone / dog | angry -> music / gardening | burnt out -> read | hungry -> sleep / drink water

Oh, and I also take time out in my office with our pet-cat on my lap. That is the best way to take my mind off of the world around me.
