Let’s be real — life is NOT a leisurely stroll down the jetty. It’s more like juggling chainsaws while riding a unicycle uphill… in the rain. Ever felt like this?
- Struggling to finish what you start?
- Procrastination has set up a tent in your head?
- Waking up more knackered than when you hit the pillow?
- Drifting from your mates or missing proper time with your kids?
Mate, I’ve been there. Deep in it. And if any of that rings true, it’s probably time to stop and reassess what’s chewing at your bandwidth.
The Daily Chaos We Ignore
Running a business (like I do with Mow\&Wash) is a full-tilt sprint most days. Add family life, side gigs, and the odd existential crisis, and suddenly you’re running on fumes.
I used to think I could out-hustle burnout. Spoiler alert: you can’t. It’ll catch you — slowly, then all at once.
Late nights, comfort eating, using a few cold ones as emotional duct tape — it adds up. Physically, emotionally, spiritually. That kind of living doesn’t build resilience — it erodes it.
The Hidden Weight Of Stress
Stress isn’t just in your head — it’s in your gut, your jaw, your mood. I got snappy. Tired. Distant. And let’s not sugar-coat it — I ended up in hospital after a full-on breakdown. That was my red light.
Turns out, cortisol’s not just a buzzword. It’s your body waving a white flag.
How I Found My Feet Again
Balance didn’t show up with a neon sign. It came in slow changes:
- I started walking at sunrise, coffee in hand, grounding myself before the chaos.
- I trimmed back commitments — even the ones that stroked my ego but drained my soul.
- I chose whole meals over plastic-packaged rubbish.
- I started saying no — to guilt, to overwork, to the “always-on” mindset.
Even swapped my office lunch breaks for time in the sun or a quick chinwag with someone who doesn’t want to talk business.
The Ripple Effect
When I slowed down, my productivity didn’t tank — it sharpened. My relationships stopped fraying. My body stopped yelling.
Work-life balance isn’t some self-help fad. It’s about staying human in a world that wants you to be a machine.
So here’s my advice: reset before you burn out. Rest isn’t laziness — it’s fuel.
You’ve only got one nervous system, mate. Look after it like you’d look after your best tools.
