Finding Private Meditation

In the midst of life’s hustle, I recently embarked on a personal journey seeking inner balance, a quest to enhance my mental well-being and find equilibrium for my emotions.

Yearning for a serene sanctuary, I found myself atop Flagstaff Hill in Kingscote, Kangaroo Island.

With a yoga mat as my companion, I sought a flat-surfaced refuge for meditation.

The hill, overlooking Reeves Point with its panoramic views, became my training ground for straightforward techniques.

Read on as I share six no-nonsense meditation methods, designed for guys who appreciate a solid approach to finding balance amidst the chaos.

  1. Breathe and Count: Sit comfortably, close your eyes, and focus on your breath. Inhale, exhale. Count each breath up to 10 and start over. If your mind wanders, gently bring it back to counting.
  2. Nature’s Symphony: Listen to the sounds around you – birds, wind, rustling leaves. Let the natural symphony guide your thoughts and bring you into the present moment.
  3. Mindful Observation: Observe your surroundings. Notice the colors, shapes, and textures. Feel the connection between yourself and the earth beneath you.
  4. Gratitude Walk: Take a slow stroll, acknowledging things you’re grateful for with each step. The breeze, the sun, the moment. Let gratitude fill your heart.
  5. Cloud Watching: Lie back, watch the clouds drift by, and let your thoughts drift away with them. Embrace the simplicity of the sky above.
  6. Affirmation Repetition: Choose a positive affirmation. Repeat it silently with each breath. Let the affirmation become a calming mantra, grounding you in the present.
  7. EXTRA: Scream into the Wind: Some mornings I take this walk to discover the piercing cold wind is rushing over the hill. I use this to silently scream into the wind, mouth wide open, eyes shut tight, and release all my pent-up energy. Despite not any noise, this surprisingly works – at least for me.

Remember, meditation is about finding peace in the moment, and Flagstaff Hill provides a perfect backdrop for your practice. I enjoy the serenity of Kangaroo Island!
