Kangaroo Island Art Displayed Online

Once a month, I eagerly participate in a unique volunteer opportunity at the Kangaroo Island Gallery, located at 1 Murray Street, Kingscote, behind the Council Building and opposite Home Hardware.

This isn’t just about showcasing my own creations; it’s a collaborative effort to promote and sell artwork from a diverse range of local talents.

The art gallery operates on an innovative model where exhibitors contribute their time instead of paying traditional exhibition fees. This approach fosters a sense of community and shared responsibility among the artists.

My role involves manning the art gallery for either a full day or two half-days monthly, a task I find surprisingly enjoyable and fulfilling. The ambient atmosphere of the gallery creates a pleasant environment for spending the day, allowing me to immerse myself in the local art scene while interacting with visitors.

During my shifts, I go beyond the basic requirements.

I take the initiative to create short videos that highlight the ever-changing layout of the gallery. These videos serve to document and promote the curator’s monthly efforts in rearranging the artwork, ensuring a fresh experience for repeat visitors.

This dynamic approach keeps the gallery exciting and unpredictable, as no piece remains in the same spot from one month to the next, encouraging patrons to explore and discover something new with each visit.
