Category vs Tag

For some reason, during my short trip in the elevator in this morning I had this thought…

“Categories are for articles, tags are for images.”

It made sense then, and it still does.

I was reminded of this tonight when my wordpress told me I have 101 categories but nil tags on my articles. I can live with that. Because I inundate my flickr and redbubble photographs with tags.

What are your thoughts on this issue?

  1. I think categories are like the table of contents of a book and tags are like the index.
If I just want to browse I will use the category/table of contents and look for things the peak my curiousity but if I am looking for something specific I will use the tag/index to search
