In my last post I showed cartoons and manipulated photographs in response to the current atrocities happening in the Ukraine.
In an attempt to locate the original of these cartoons, I resorted to TinEye.com . This revealed that most of the photographs originate from Russian websites that have been turned off, at least for now. So I have sought the artists behind the cartoons.
- I cannot locate the Calvin and Hobbes cartoon original, but I did find Bill Watterson’s daily cartoon feed.
- The manipulated Pootin face is approximately 10 years old. And now Russians are not permitted to share the image. Thankfully the rest of the world is OK with parody.
- The peace-dove sh1tting on Pootin originates as a stock photo, manipulated masterfully.
- The brown bear getting it’s claw caught in a trap is apt artwork by Theo Moudakis, Award-Winning Editorial Cartoonist with the Toronto Star.
- Most of the obscure cartoons seem to have been released to the world on Imgur and Reddit, so have become the main repositorys for most cartoons . Check out the balls of Zelensky.
- The giant red Russian bear about to step on a small Ukrainian flag made of Lego bricks is an absolutely fantastic poster by Polish illustrator Pawel Jonca. <– Link takes you to donation site.
Unless someone admits to drawing or compiling these images, that’s the best I can do.
