My New Camera: Fuji FinePix XP130

As an owner of several brands and models of cameras, I always enjoy testing them.

I was gifted a compact camera recently after my wife managed to lose her compact mini Canon camera – and have since been gobsmacked at what I actually got: A FinePix XP130 camera.

It’s said to be waterproof up to 20m, shockproof up to 1.75m, and allegedly both freezeproof and dustproof. I aim to test its water resistance within the next few days, but would prefer NOT to do either an impact nor frozen test. Maybe they simply mean it can be thrown out the window of a car at high speed OR carried into the snowy mountains. Though testing it from inside a car whilst snowing happens around it would be fun.

Here are the technical specifications provided, of which any one of them is impressive alone!

  • 16.4MP BSI CMOS Sensor – I had to google this: But I still don’t understand it!
  • Fujinon 5x Optical Zoom Lens – Another google search, and this revealed that is glass worth having.
  • 28-140mm (35mm Equivalent) – I like how they describe this. Because whilst it is a zoom lens, it’s also a standard lens and potentially a macro lens – that produces incredible detail thanks to the CMOS and billion other features!
  • Water, Shock, Freeze, and Dustproof – Like I said earlier, these are great to know if I were to accidentally drop in water, from a height, into a bucket of ice OR into the vacuum bag.
  • Full HD 1080p Video Recording at 60 fps – THIS, this alone blows my mind. Like many vloggers, we dream of 1080p and 30fps at the very minimum. This adorable little camera does that and oh-so-much more.
  • 3.0″ 920k-Dot LCD Monitor – The rear monitor is impressive for its size. Not only do I get a true image in camera whilst in preview mode, that same image appears when I view on my computer monitor. Double win!
  • Built-In Wi-Fi and Bluetooth LE – Meh. Whilst I like that it can, I probably never will do this. I like Instagram, but not so much that I would do this. I will probably test when I have conquered the many other features.
  • Geotagging Support and Electronic Level – Nice. I have turned these on.
  • 10 fps Continuous Shooting – Nice. This means I won’t miss any of the great moments when the kids are playing at the beach.
  • Double Exposure and Interval ShootingDouble exposure? This is not something I would ever do deliberately. Maybe back when I was using actual film, but not intentionaly in a DSLR. But people have found a way to double expose or use interval shoot on their camera. I won’t talk too much about it. I do this, but I enjoy doing it in post-production and list as abstract photography.

I am taking the FinePix XP130 to a few family events over the next few days – so you will see the results on my flickr and my instagram.

When will you see the video? As I write this I am planning a time-lapse of images and footage to put on my Youtube channel . Here is the final result:
