My Last Photography Purchases for 2011

BlackRapid DR1

I thought I would have to import these from the US, but it turns out that Teds Cameras are selling the BlackRapid RS DR-1 Double Strap in their Rundle Street store!

If you haven’t heard of BlackRapid products, check out their main site (www.blackrapid.com) to see the amazing product they have developed.

IMHO, they make and sell the best double camera holster/strap system on the market. It’s far better than my similar creation that was based on their product!

So now that I have found this product locally, I’m contemplating buying the BlackRapid RS DR-1 Double Strap. Being able to carry two cameras easily without fear of dropping either of them is my dream-come-true!

Despite not being able to justify the expense today: I instead purchased a set of Manfrotto Triple Hooks and HONL Photo Speed Grid 1/8I rarely go into a camera store without buying something!

HONL Photo Speed Grid

After getting the HONL home, I realise I have to now get the Speed strap. Would sticking velcro-strapping around the end of my flash-gun be enough? Because I had that until recently for another similar product. Wish I had known that.

I cannot work out why they didn’t tell me that at the store. Surely they didn’t assume I already had strap. Wouldn’t you try to sell this important accessory to me? Seriously. Ah well, it gives me an excuse to return tomorrow!

Manfrotto Triple Hooks

And why did I buy the hooks?

Well, I have determined that I can build the rest of the roller-system required to roll three different materials up and down the wall, all without chains that look like they belong on Harley Davidsons. During the upcoming weekend I’m going to draw up and build a cheaper yet just as effective system, and that will still look good.

Maybe sometime down the track I’ll purchase the full Manfrotto roller-system rig, but I have far more important purchases to make right now. There’s going to be a baby in our house in six months time.

More later. Particularly the bigger question why I chose today to check out these products and buy those few things. There’s plenty to write about that can be split into two articles. Gotta keep you coming back! I also have an interesting design for a portable cyclorama that needs explaining!
