It’s All About Application

We are moments away from handing over the older laptop to my mother! SWMBO helped her mother purchase a brand new DELL laptop last year – and finally helped finance a new laptop for me too!

I now have a DELL Inspiron I6400 Intel®

But titles mean nothing – it’s what’s inside that matters: Core™2 CPU T5600 @ 1.83Ghz, 1.00 GB of RAM, 120 GB HD.

Following on from TJ Mapes unofficial-meme, here are the most loved applications on my new laptop computer.

  • Operating System: Microsoft Windows XP Professional
  • Browser: MSIE7 / Firefox
  • Media Player: Windows Media Player
  • CD / DVD Authoring: Sonic DigitalMedia LE
  • Bit Torrent Client: uTorrent
  • Email Client: GMail
  • TextEditor: MS NotePad
  • Video Production: N/A
  • FTP: WS_FTP_LE
  • IRC: Chatzilla
  • Digital Imagery: Irfanview [UPGRADED in 2009 to GIMP and PS3]
  • MPG Rip: Hmmm. Just realised this got installed on the old laptop. Must find that CD…
  • Application Deleting: Through standard installation in operating system.
  • Zip: Winzip
  • Flickr Uploader: Yes
  • Design: MS NotePad & NotePad++ / "Through the Power of Thought and Imagination!"
  • CSS / HTML: See under "Browser" and "TextEditor"

Things haven’t changed much since I first got hooked on web-site design in late 1999. I still crack other people’s code to see how things work – but more often I can see it in my mind, I write it in MS Notepad during my lunch break, then test it at home the same evening. I have used that really simple technique for two sites now.

Having purchased a number of really good web site design books over the last few years (and still growing!), my enjoyment of the web design is increasing. Since all my studies thus far have been via books and online tutorials, I am considering formal studies.
